Dradis 499: Are You Out Of Your Mind Bi-Weekly BSG Writing Contest Jul. 3rd, 2005 @ 01:05 pm
bsgnews2005
The contest resumes with a twist and more words. More than a drabble; less than a novella. We are going to feature a different character every other week. Called Secrets Kept, Secrets Revealed, you can either write about the secrets that this character keeps or is keeping from others or a secret or secrets that are revealed to others. This is a bi-weekly contest so entries are due on Saturday, July 16th @ 11:59 pm.

We're increasing the word count to 499 words, so that you can lose your mind, at the suggestion of some of our cramped-by-word-count writers, although you don't have to go that long. You can go slightly longer as well if you need a bit more room in order to get the secret resolved.

Our first character is Starbuck, who else?. What secret does she hold close to his heart? Is it revealed or does she continue to conceal it? Does she have more than one secret? Go wild here, and above all else, have fun!

All new banners will be issued for this contest.

Dradis Entry: Perspectives by Scooterkitty May. 20th, 2005 @ 05:24 pm

PERSPECTIVE

Cally glanced across the hangar bay at Starbuck and Apollo. They were arguing, again. The girl had never seen two people who were supposed to be such good friends argue so much.

She shook her head. What a waste of time. She could certainly think of more enjoyable things to do with Captain Apollo than argue. She wasn't sure what Starbuck's problem was.

But what do I know? Cally thought. I'm not a hotshot pilot who's too big for her britches and can't see what's right in front of her face. Nope, I'm just a silly, little girl... yeah right.

Summary: Contest word of the week: SILLY
Spoiler: Kobol's Last Gleaming, Pt. 2

Disclaimer: As usual, I am a humble, struggling writer. I own nothing, not even these characters.

Where you go, I go. I won't abandon you. The words had been silly, useless. Nothing William Adama did stopped the inexorable descent loneliness.

"You lied to me." The words were spoken twice.

Caroline whispered it the day Zak died. William hadn't kept him safe. One son dead; one son ripped apart and eventually gone. Kara screamed it through his comm channel, jumping to Caprica.

When it really mattered, his words meant nothing.

Now they were both gone, swept away by non-human, compassionless machines without a soul.

All he had left was pain; he'd carry it all the way to Earth.

"Hey Lee, Look at this guy, Admiral Sines, do you think his relatives are Cosines?"

Lee and Kara glare at Zack from across the library table

"Sorry, I guess I went on a tangent."

Groans from all around

"C’mon, Lee, be my cotangent."

"We do see things from the same angle."

"Stop. Now. Both of you."

"Aww Kara, don’t be so obtuse."

"Oooh Lee, that was a cute one."

It was all right.

"I'd give it a seven on a scale from one to ten."

"That’s it. I give up. It’s my worst fear come to life. I’m surrounded by nerds."

It knows my name!?

Kara wanted to take her cane and bash its head in right now and be done with it. But she had to break it down, find out what makes it tick. Find out what makes it suffer, causes it pain.

If it does feel pain.

Does it know pain? Does it know the pain of the billions that they slaughtered? Pain of the few thousands that survived?

Has it felt the suffering, the loss, the anger, the hatred, the fear as it masqueraded as someone who does feel?

Does it feel fear?

She'll soon find out.

Fear.

I fear this thing within my breasts, its malevolent purpose, its slow grasping hold over my life as day by day the monster at my breast eats away my remaining life, my remaining chance at leaving someone to carry my name.

I fear that my name will end with me, I am the last Roslin, there are no others alive. A child would help; I always wanted a child just never found the time. A young being nestling between my breasts, drinking of my life, instead I have this cancer.

I fear that all I am ends with me.

Spoilers: You Can't Go Home Again
Summary: Lee is challenged by Tigh for his willingness to go to any length to find Kara.

Author's Note: Inspired by the poem "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas-a poem about fighting for life with everything in you and one of my favorite poems. I rewatched "You Can't Go Home Again" and I was struck by Lee's anguish over her loss and his rage at Tigh-pretty amazing stuff. :D

Rage. Anguish. Despair. All cross my mind.

He wants to leave her behind. I can't let him. I have to keep searching.

I challenge him and he hits a nerve. He knows I love her and he has gotten too close. I grab his collar. I want to kill him. I want to rage against him because I've lost her and I can't face it.

I have to keep searching for her no matter what it takes. If she's dead, I don't know what I'll do but I can't face that right now.

Right now, it's rage that fuels me.

Spoiler: Just after "You Can't Go Home Again"

Disclaimer: Would never, ever, ever want to infringe upon theoutstanding work of the talented folk that created this fabulous canvas that drives our imaginations.

Cat sat in her cockpit awaiting the `go' order. Nervousness, then anxiety, then downright fear as she waited for her first combat scramble. Days earlier she learned how to fly this bird, and now she was expected to fight with it?

Just as the scramble order, her launch and form up with her wingman was all a blur. She was thrown into the soup, almost lost her leader. Banking hard to port then hard over starboard, a Cylon cut her off got behind her leader.

Later, she couldn't remember because it happened so fast.

She got her first combat kill.
